Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa has firmly rejected claims that Finance Ministry Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma holds dual citizenship.
Speaking at a media briefing, Jayatissa clarified that Suriyapperuma was not a dual citizen at the time he was appointed to Parliament through the National List in 2024, nor when he later assumed duties as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance. He emphasized that all legal requirements and background checks had been properly followed during both appointments.
Suriyapperuma, a former Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Finance, resigned from Parliament in June 2025 to take up his current role as Secretary to the Treasury.
The government maintains that the allegations are baseless and reiterated that he remains fully compliant with constitutional provisions governing public office in Sri Lanka.
