Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation Aravinda Senarath informed Parliament yesterday (06) that the government has completed all necessary preparations to begin paddy purchasing for the upcoming season.
He stated that paddy warehouses in most districts have already been opened, with operations planned in line with the anticipated harvest volumes.
The Deputy Minister also noted that a programme has been launched to systematically convert paddy stocks purchased during the previous season into rice and release them to the market.
He further assured that with the purchasing process now underway and adequate storage facilities in place, the government does not expect any major issues in managing the upcoming harvest.
