The government has initiated measures to accelerate the digitisation of internal operations and diplomatic services within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As part of broader efforts to modernise public sector service delivery, a discussion was held at the Presidential Secretariat on implementing a digital reform plan for the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, the President’s Media Division (PMD) stated.
The reform agenda includes the digital management of foreign mission services, expansion of online consular services, and the establishment of a formal mechanism to support Sri Lankan migrant workers.
Plans were also revealed to launch a user-friendly web interface aimed at improving access to information and services for both local and international users.
The discussion highlighted the importance of simplifying procedures for Sri Lankans living abroad, such as submitting passport applications and other official documents digitally.
These reforms are expected to reduce administrative delays and significantly enhance user convenience, according to the PMD.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weerarathne and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, with participation from several senior officials.
