Govt. launches auction for 27 luxury, decommissioned vehicles

The Presidential Secretariat has launched the second phase of bidding to sell 27 luxury and decommissioned vehicles, including high-end models such as BMWs, Land Rovers, and a Porsche Cayenne.

The vehicles, manufactured between 1991 and 2016, include two BMWs, a Porsche Cayenne, Ford Everest and Land Rover SUVs, a Hyundai Terracan, a Mitsubishi Montero, Nissan Patrol cars, a Land Cruiser Sahara, six V08 vehicles, and an air-conditioned Mitsubishi Rosa bus.

Tender documents can be obtained from the Finance Division of the Presidential Secretariat, located on the second floor of the Sema Building, on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until 14th of May.

Interested bidders may inspect the vehicles at the Salusala premises, No. 93, Jawatta Road, Colombo, until the same date, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

This auction follows a successful first phase that saw the sale of 14 luxury vehicles, six decommissioned vehicles, and various spare parts, including nine Defender Jeeps.

According to the PMD, the auction is part of the government’s broader effort to reduce public expenditure and enforce fiscal discipline.

The vehicles being auctioned were not assigned to permanent staff but were used by advisors and other appointees under Article 41(1) of the Constitution during the tenure of the former President.
