Ajith P. Perera says the government has decided to cancel the procurement process related to the controversial electronic passport (e-passport) project with immediate effect.

Speaking to the media, Perera stated that the decision was communicated to the relevant bidders via email on May 29 by the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
According to him, the email informed bidders that the Cabinet of Ministers had directed the immediate cancellation of the procurement process.
Perera said the move marks the end of the tender process that had drawn significant public and political attention in recent months.
