The Sri Lankan government has shown interest in the RDMNS Railway Network Organization (Ratawata Dumriya Mageenge Sansadaya), a voluntary platform run by railway commuters to provide real-time railway information.
This led to an official meeting on 5th of March 2025, at the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka.
The meeting aimed to introduce RDMNS services to Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Deputy Minister Weeraratne praised RDMNS for its eight years of voluntary public service and discussed integrating the platform with government initiatives.
Key topics included promoting the RDMNS application among foreign tourists through Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and involving the Ministry of Tourism to enhance digital accessibility to railway information.
Additionally, discussions covered digitizing the Sri Lanka Railway Department under the State Digitization Project, with RDMNS potentially contributing to this effort.
The Ministry also considered exporting the RDMNS mobile app business model—believed to be globally unique—as a Sri Lankan innovation for integration with railway systems in other countries.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Weeraratne, officials from the Digital Economy Ministry, and representatives from the RDMNS Railway Network Organization.
