The government denied allegations that Rs. 7 million was spent on the inauguration of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme at the Presidential Secretariat.
Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, clarified in Parliament that only Rs. 900,000 had been approved for the event.
He further stated that even the approved payment had not yet been made.
The clarification was in response to Opposition MP Chamara Sampath Dissanayake’s claim that Rs. 7 million was spent.
Dr. Jayatissa explained that quotations were called for in line with standard procedures but were rejected due to excessively high rates.
The Minister emphasized that the government was committed to maintaining financial transparency in such initiatives.
