Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne announced that the government has decided to proceed with the liquidation of the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).
He stated that the agency, originally set up with World Bank assistance, has deteriorated to a deplorable condition and can no longer be restored to its former state.
Weeraratne explained that, similar to the previous administration’s stance, the current government has also determined that ICTA should be liquidated.
Outlining future plans, he said the government will establish a Digital Economic Authority to formulate digital policies, while GovTech Sri Lanka, which has already been set up, will function as the body to implement those policies.
The Deputy Minister expressed these views during a recent televised interview.
