Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion, remains a fundamental responsibility of the government.

The Minister made these remarks while officially inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Kopay Police Station on June 14.

Built at a cost of nearly Rs. 40 million, the modern facility was completed within approximately one year and is expected to improve the efficiency and quality of services provided by the police to the public.

During the ceremony, Minister Wijepala also oversaw the symbolic handover of land occupied by the former police station building back to its original owners, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting property rights.

House keys were presented to seven beneficiaries as part of the initiative to restore ownership rights and support affected families.

Addressing those present, the Minister stressed that providing efficient, reliable, and people-friendly services remains a core responsibility of the Sri Lanka Police.

He noted that strengthening public trust in law enforcement and ensuring equal protection for all communities are essential for maintaining peace and social harmony.

The event was attended by N. Vedanayagam, Jaffna District MP Karunanathan Ilankumaran, and several other political and government representatives.
