The Government has announced that the import of frozen vegetables meeting the standards of the Department of Agriculture will now be permitted, Essential Services Commissioner General B. K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi said.
He explained that District Secretaries have been instructed to publicise lists of essential food items and other necessary supplies required during the ongoing disaster situation, enabling authorities to identify and resolve difficulties faced by the public in obtaining these goods.
This system will allow suppliers to coordinate with District and Divisional Secretaries to deliver the required items quickly and efficiently.
Chandrakeerthi added that discussions are being arranged with Litro Gas to identify any issues in the distribution of LP gas and to implement immediate solutions.
District Secretaries have also been directed to submit information collected from their offices, along with data from other State institutions, to the Prime Minister’s Office to support medium-term relief measures for affected communities.
The Prime Minister’s Office will compile these requirements into an easily accessible format, allowing both local and international donors to clearly understand the items most needed.
This structured approach is expected to prevent the receipt of unnecessary supplies while ensuring that essential goods reach the appropriate locations.
According to the statement, donated goods arriving from overseas will be accepted through the Disaster Management Centre, with applicable customs duty concessions and other tax relief measures.
The Government anticipates that this initiative will streamline disaster management efforts and ensure timely and effective assistance to communities impacted by the crisis.
