GovPay to enable payment of all traffic spot fines from September – ICTA

From September, motorists will be able to pay traffic spot fines issued by the police using the GovPay application, according to Harsha Purasinghe, a board member of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Purasinghe confirmed the upcoming launch of the new Online Traffic Fine Payment System, which enables real-time issuance and digital payment of traffic fines.

The system, initially piloted in April 2025 across selected police divisions, has already processed 461 transactions and collected over Rs. 739,500. Following its successful trial, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the project for full-scale implementation.

The first phase of the island-wide rollout is set to begin by the end of July, covering police stations in the Western and Southern Provinces. The ICTA aims to complete the nationwide rollout by September, connecting all police stations and allowing citizens to pay fines locally and digitally.

GovPay, launched officially on February 7, 2025, has quickly expanded across the public sector. The platform now supports digital payments for over 700 active government services across more than 50 government organizations.

To date, GovPay has processed 7,024 transactions, generating Rs. 65.62 million in government revenue through secure, seamless digital payments, the ICTA stated.
