Government using suppression to maintain power – Namal

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa today accused the government of resorting to suppression to maintain its dominance and quell growing public protests over its inaction.

Speaking at a meeting, Rajapaksa claimed that the government’s political agenda was driven by suppression because it had failed to deliver on its promises.

He questioned whether the public would truly benefit from certain policies implemented by the government, adding that all institutions, including Youth Councils, were being politicised to secure the ruling party’s grip on power.

Rajapaksa further said the government anticipated public protests when it failed to fulfil its pledges, and alleged that it was deliberately stalling development in villages, temples, churches, and kovils.
