Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, announced that a circular will be issued tomorrow to establish drug prevention committees in all government institutions.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Minister said that ongoing drug raids have uncovered large quantities of narcotics. He emphasized that the heads of all ministries, departments, and government institutions must take steps to ensure their workplaces remain drug-free. “If drug traffickers are found, disciplinary action will be taken,” he warned.
Wijepala further stated that drug prevention committees will also be created in schools, universities, and other educational institutions. He noted that information uncovered during recent raids shows drug trafficking occurring from high schools to remote villages, highlighting the need for preventive measures across all institutions.
