Government suspends employment opportunities in Israel amid rising tensions

The government has temporarily suspended sending Sri Lankans for employment in Israel due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra announced yesterday.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo, the Deputy Minister said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure in light of the prevailing security risks in the region.

“Given the current situation, travel to Israel for foreign employment has been temporarily halted. We will reassess the situation and make a decision in the coming days,” he stated.

He urged Sri Lankan citizens currently residing in Israel and Iran to stay in close contact with Sri Lankan embassies in those countries.

“We have provided emergency hotline numbers, and there is no barrier to reaching out to us. The safety of our citizens remains our top priority,” he emphasized.
