Claiming that it is not possible to develop a country and transform society overnight, Tilvin Silva said today that the government must be protected until the objectives behind its formation are achieved.
Speaking at the commemoration of “April Heroes Day” in Vavuniya, he noted that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People’s Power (NPP) government was established with nationwide public support to replace the old system with a new one.
He emphasized that transforming a 76-year-old system—along with its laws, institutional framework, and mechanisms—is a complex and challenging task.
Silva pointed out that countries such as Singapore and China took between 10 to 25 years to achieve significant national transformation.
“It takes years to change an entire society. We must protect the government until we achieve the objectives for which it was formed. This work cannot be completed within five years,” he said.
