The government has launched a major national programme to fully digitise state services and accelerate Sri Lanka’s transition towards a modern digital economy.

A high-level discussion on the initiative was led by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne and Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath.
The programme aims to improve efficiency in the public sector, reduce service delays, and strengthen the technological capabilities of government officials.
Special attention will be given to enhancing digital literacy, increasing cybersecurity awareness, and overcoming resistance to technology adoption among senior public servants.
Authorities plan to introduce an e-learning platform and mobile-based training modules to provide digital skills training to hundreds of thousands of state employees.
The initiative will also make digital competency a key factor in recruitment, performance evaluations, and promotions, while supporting long-term education reforms to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
