
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne has announced that the government will recover funds from farmers who fail to cultivate their lands after receiving fertilizer subsidies.
He stated that the recovery will be made by deducting the amount from the subsidy allocated for the next cultivation season.
Currently, farmers receive Rs. 50,000 as a fertilizer subsidy for every two hectares of cultivated land.
The Deputy Minister also noted that farmers who grow intercrops on paddy lands will receive a subsidy of Rs. 30,000 for every two hectares.
