GMOA denies inviting Ranil to parliament

The GMOA has clarified that it did not express any desire for former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to be part of the current Sri Lankan Parliament.

GMOA Spokesman Chamil Wijesinghe stated during a televised debate that no such intention was conveyed in their recent meeting with the former President.

He acknowledged that the UNP’s official press release mentioned such a statement but insisted that the matter was not discussed during their meeting.

Wijesinghe alleged that certain parties were using this claim to attack the GMOA, leading to significant backlash.

He described the situation as a serious issue, emphasizing that false statements were being attributed to the GMOA as part of a smear campaign.

He further stressed that attacking the GMOA in this manner would not help resolve the problems faced by doctors in Sri Lanka.

The GMOA representatives had met Wickremesinghe this week to discuss challenges in the medical sector.

However, following the meeting, a UNP media statement claimed that the GMOA had expressed the need for an experienced politician like the former President in Parliament.

This statement sparked public outrage, with many questioning the GMOA over the alleged remarks.
