The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has declared a nationwide one-day token strike to protest the brutal sexual assault of a female doctor at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on 10th of March 2025.
The GMOA’s Executive Committee has scheduled the strike to begin at 8:00 AM on Wednesday,12th of March , 2025, and it will continue across all hospitals in the country until 8:00 AM on Thursday,13th of March 2025.
Emergency medical services will remain unaffected, with necessary measures in place to ensure continuous care for critical patients.
However, the strike will not impact children’s hospitals, maternity hospitals, kidney treatment units, the National Institute of Mental Health, or military hospitals.
