Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) and former MP Udaya Gammanpila has alleged that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is deliberately delaying the appointment of a new Auditor General until the terms of three independent members of the Constitutional Council expire on 18th of January 2026.
He claimed it was “obvious” that the President intends to appoint an Auditor General of his own choosing once he is able to secure greater influence within the Constitutional Council.
