The Sri Lankan government has announced a free seven-day visa extension for foreign visitors who are unable to depart the country due to flight cancellations linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
The Department of Immigration and Emigration stated that the concession applies to all foreign nationals whose visas expire while they remain in Sri Lanka as a result of disrupted or cancelled outbound flights.
Under this arrangement, eligible visitors will receive a seven-day extension to their existing visas at no cost, allowing them additional time to rearrange their travel plans without incurring overstay penalties.
Officials noted that the measure is aimed at assisting travellers affected by the current disruption in international flight schedules and ensuring they can remain in Sri Lanka legally until alternative arrangements are made.
