Free services for Melburnians available today – don’t miss out

Melbourne Mayor Nicholas Reece has announced that unconditional free public transport services will be available from 6 PM yesterday (30th) until 6 AM tomorrow (1st of January).

All public transport in Melbourne will operate free of charge during this 12-hour period to accommodate the large crowds expected to celebrate New Year’s Eve. It is estimated that nearly 500,000 people will gather in Melbourne tonight for the festivities.

The initiative aims to provide convenient and accessible services for revelers, ensuring smooth travel throughout the city. Community Safety Minister Anthony Carbines assured that all measures are in place to offer a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending.

The celebrations will include midnight fireworks and laser shows, with the Docklands area hosting the main events. Festivities will begin at 6 PM today and continue until 1 AM tomorrow, culminating in an 8-minute fireworks display at midnight. Free public transport will be available to help attendees return home safely after the events.
