
A former official of the Department of Fisheries and a staff member of former Deputy Minister of Housing Construction, Indika Bandaranayake, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The Bribery Commission said the arrests were made in connection with a complaint alleging that the suspects obtained Rs. 245,000 from an individual by promising to secure a job at the Ports Authority.
According to the complaint, the suspects demanded a total bribe of Rs. 500,000, instructing the individual to pay Rs. 250,000 upfront, with the remaining amount to be paid after the job was secured.
The arrested individuals are scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
