Former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has been granted permission to be detained for 90 days for questioning in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Sallay was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of continuing probes into the coordinated bombings carried out on April 21, 2019, which claimed the lives of more than 260 people and left hundreds injured across Sri Lanka.
Authorities stated that the 90-day detention period will enable investigators to question the former intelligence chief under legal provisions applicable to national security investigations.
The Easter Sunday attacks targeted churches and luxury hotels and remain one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in Sri Lanka’s history. Multiple investigations and related legal proceedings are still underway, with further developments expected as inquiries continue.
