Former minister Vijith Soysa granted bail

Former Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa, who was arrested by the Walana Anti-Vice Unit for assembling a lorry using illegally imported spare parts, has been granted bail.

Bandarawela Magistrate Peter Paul ordered his release on a surety bail of Rs. 200,000.

The case has been scheduled to be recalled on 6th of February 2025. Soysa was arrested on 19th of January, after being questioned for over five hours.

Police stated that charges include creating fraudulent documents for the illegally assembled lorry. He was later handed over to the Haputale Police.

Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath visited the court on 20th of January to check on Soysa’s well-being.
