
Former Minister and veteran Sri Lankan politician Gamini Lokuge has passed away at the age of 82, according to family sources.
Lokuge began his political journey in 1960 with the United National Party (UNP) and gained national prominence in 1983 when he was elected to represent the Kesbewa Electoral District.
Over his decades-long career, he held several key ministerial portfolios, including Tourism, Sports and Public Recreation, Urban Development, and Transport.
Known for his crossover to the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2006, Lokuge remained an influential figure in Sri Lankan politics until recent years.
