Former Australia cricketer stuart MacGill Spared jail in drug supply case

Former Australian Test cricketer Stuart MacGill has avoided jail after being sentenced for his role in a cocaine supply case.

On Friday, a Sydney court handed the 54-year-old a one-year and 10-month intensive corrections order, which will be served in the community rather than behind bars.

The sentence includes 495 hours of community service and strict conditions requiring MacGill to abstain from alcohol and drugs, with regular testing.

Judge Nicole Noman said MacGill played an “indispensable role” in facilitating discussions that led to a major cocaine deal.

MacGill was convicted in March of knowingly participating in the supply of a prohibited drug.

Police alleged he introduced his personal cocaine dealer to an associate in 2021, who later negotiated a US$200,000 drug deal.

Though MacGill did not take part in the actual transaction, the court found he was aware of and contributed to the supply arrangement.

MacGill represented Australia in 44 Test matches between 1998 and 2008.
