A beachside restaurant in Tangalle has sparked widespread outrage after allegedly refusing to serve locals and enforcing a “foreigners only” policy. The controversy emerged after a video circulated online showing three Sri Lankans from the United Kingdom being denied service, with the cashier reportedly stating that only foreigners were served at the establishment.
In the video, one of the individuals expressed frustration, claiming they were refused service because they were locals and describing the experience as discriminatory. The incident has triggered a strong public reaction on social media, raising concerns about certain restaurants in popular tourist areas prioritising foreign visitors over Sri Lankan customers.
The video has also reignited discussions about fairness, inclusivity, and the importance of treating both local and international tourists equally within Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry.
