Following the recent ticket controversy involving the Ella Odyssey train, Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena announced that foreigners who purchased tickets from agents at inflated prices will be allowed to travel on the train until 30th of September , provided they prove their identity and pay the required penalty.
He explained that this grace period was granted in consideration of the inconvenience caused to the affected foreign passengers.
The Deputy Minister further stated that from 30th of September onwards, passengers will be required to present their national identity card (for locals) or passport number (for foreigners) when reserving tickets, ensuring that agents will no longer be able to engage in such malpractices.
