
On February 23, officers from the Hikkaduwa Police Life Saving Unit rescued three foreign nationals from separate drowning incidents along the coastal areas.
At Narigama Beach, a 37-year-old Russian man and a 32-year-old Russian woman were swept away by a sudden strong current while swimming. Officers, including Additional Police Inspector Deshapriya and Police Constables Hemakumara, Adheesha, Disanayaka, and Jayasinghe, acted quickly to rescue the couple and administer first aid.
Later that afternoon, a 30-year-old Austrian woman found herself in distress at Pannamgoda Beach. Additional Police Inspector Sirimal and Police Constables Bandara and Kumara responded promptly, rescuing her and providing immediate medical care.
The quick and effective actions of the Hikkaduwa Police Life Saving Unit helped avert potential tragedies, emphasizing the vital role of continuous coastal patrols during peak swimming times.
