Foreign minister Vijitha Herath departs for Geneva to attend UNHRC session

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath departed for Geneva this morning (7tj) to attend the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which is set to begin tomorrow (8), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

During the session, Minister Herath will deliver a special statement on behalf of the Sri Lankan government. He is also scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with senior diplomats, including a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, where he will outline the new government’s initiatives, progress, and future plans regarding human rights protection.

The Minister is accompanied by Dyani Mendis, Director-General of the UN and Human Rights Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
