Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, will participate in the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC), set to take place from 16th–17th of February 2025 in Muscat, Oman.
The Indian Ocean Conference, organized annually by India’s Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the India Foundation, serves as a key consultative forum for countries in the Indian Ocean region.
The 8th edition of the conference will focus on the theme “Voyages to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.” Minister Herath is scheduled to address the first plenary session on 16th of February, where he will speak on the theme.
The conference will bring together ministers and officials from 60 countries and international organizations across the Indian Ocean region.
During the event, Minister Herath will discuss regional maritime issues and explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations, including economic cooperation.
Notably, Sri Lanka hosted the second edition of the Indian Ocean Conference in Colombo in 2017.
