Progress on facilitating foreign employment opportunities for retiring Sri Lanka Navy personnel in the shipping and marine sector was reviewed at a high-level meeting held in Colombo on Wednesday.
The discussion took place at the Office of the Deputy Minister of Defence and was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara and Deputy Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku.
Officials focused on establishing a structured mechanism to support retiring naval personnel in obtaining internationally recognised professional qualifications required to enter the global maritime industry.
The meeting also reviewed progress in addressing certification gaps and improving coordination among key stakeholders, including the Sri Lanka Navy, the Ministry of Defence, and maritime regulatory authorities.
Special emphasis was placed on accelerating efforts to develop a sustainable framework that enables retiring personnel to secure globally accepted competency certifications and transition smoothly into overseas employment opportunities.
