Sri Lanka Customs officers have seized 1,612 cartons of foreign cigarettes and 10 bottles of whisky hidden inside 26 packages falsely declared as household furniture and personal goods at a cargo warehouse in Colombo 09.
Customs Media Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda stated that the packages arrived from Dubai under two Bill of Lading numbers and were consigned to a resident in Thotawaththa, Panadura.
During inspection, officers found 10 litres of whisky concealed inside washing powder boxes, while the cigarette cartons were hidden in custom-built furniture compartments.
The cigarettes are valued at Rs. 24.18 million, the whisky at Rs. 180,000, and other personal goods at Rs. 728,000.
Following a formal inquiry, the entire consignment—worth over Rs. 119.2 million including duties—was forfeited, and an additional penalty of Rs. 500,000 was imposed on the suspect.
The investigation was carried out by Customs officials stationed at the cargo warehouse.
