As people reach their 50s and beyond, maintaining a healthy diet becomes increasingly important, with experts warning that some commonly eaten foods may contribute to health problems.

Foods high in added sugar, excessive salt, unhealthy fats and highly processed ingredients can increase the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

Experts recommend limiting processed meats, sugary drinks, refined carbohydrates, heavily fried foods and highly processed snacks, while choosing more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.

The advice is not about completely eliminating every favourite food, but about making healthier choices more often and keeping portion sizes under control.

With age-related changes in metabolism and an increased risk of chronic diseases, a balanced diet and regular physical activity can play an important role in supporting long-term health.
