Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has expressed serious concerns over perceived flaws in Sri Lanka’s current security strategy in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
Speaking during a special television programme to mark National War Heroes Day, Fonseka criticized recent decisions such as the closure of key military camps and the opening of roads through the high-security Palaly base in Jaffna, calling them unacceptable from a military perspective.
He warned that restricting the military to camp boundaries poses a significant risk to national security.
Fonseka highlighted the threat from extremist elements in the diaspora, stating that even a small group could orchestrate deadly attacks, including suicide bombings in Jaffna.
Referring to the Easter Sunday attacks, he cautioned that failing to maintain a strong security presence could force the government to re-establish hundreds of military camps in the future.
He urged authorities to act responsibly to prevent such a scenario from recurring.
