A powerful winter cold front is set to bring heavy rain and damaging winds across southern Australia over the coming days.
Rain will spread from Western Australia into South Australia before intensifying across Victoria, New South Wales and other south-eastern areas.
A flood watch is already in place for 10 catchments in Victoria, with thunderstorms also possible in parts of WA, SA and southern inland NSW.
Some areas could receive significant rainfall, with totals potentially exceeding 50mm around Adelaide and reaching 100mm in the high country of north-east Victoria.
Strong winds are also expected. Gusts could reach around 80km/h in Perth’s coastal suburbs, about 70km/h around Adelaide, while parts of Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne could see gusts above 90km/h. Exposed southern coastal and alpine areas may experience winds exceeding 100km/h, increasing the risk of fallen trees and power outages.
Another weather front is expected to cross WA on Monday before reaching south-eastern states on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing further rain.
