Flight attendant appears in court

A flight attendant has filed a case against well-known Sri Lankan cricketer Chamika Karunaratne, requesting that he either marry her or be ordered to pay maintenance for their child.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kasun Kanchana Dissanayake yesterday scheduled the matter to be heard on 8th of December .

In her complaint, the woman stated that she had maintained a relationship with the cricketer with the expectation of marriage, which resulted in the birth of their child. She further alleged that although the cricketer had promised to marry her, he failed to do so and subsequently abandoned both her and the child.

The complainant has therefore sought a court order directing the cricketer to pay maintenance for the child if he does not marry her.

Chamika Karunaratne, cited in the complaint, was not present in court. His counsel informed the magistrate that he was unwell but assured that he would attend the next hearing.

After hearing submissions from both sides, the Additional Magistrate fixed the case for December 8.
