Five SriLankan flights diverted as SL airports remain on standby

SriLankan Airlines has diverted five international flights to alternate airports in Muscat, Riyadh, and Dubai due to ongoing tensions and airspace restrictions in the Middle East, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) announced on Monday.

The affected flights, which were headed to destinations in Europe and the Middle East, were rerouted as a precaution to ensure passenger safety. While the specific routes were not disclosed, CAASL advised passengers to stay updated through the airline.

In response to the regional airspace disruptions, Sri Lanka’s two international airports—Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA)—have been placed on standby to accommodate emergency landings or rerouted aircraft. The authority confirmed its readiness to support civil airlines affected by the situation in Qatar and surrounding regions.
