Five key proposals approved ahead of president’s China visit

Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved five key proposals aimed at enhancing cooperation with China in various sectors, ahead of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China next week.

  1. Adherence to the “One China Policy”
    The Sri Lankan government reaffirmed its commitment to the “One China Policy,” recognizing the People’s Republic of China as the legitimate government of China and Taiwan as part of China. The Cabinet approved this position as presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.
  2. MOU with China Media Group and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau
    The Cabinet approved a proposal to sign an MOU between China Media Group and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. The agreement aims to promote Sri Lanka as a prime tourist destination for Chinese visitors, utilizing advanced technology and expertise from China Media Group.
  3. Export of Chicken to China
    A proposal to sign an agreement between Sri Lanka and China for the export of chicken to the Chinese market was approved. The agreement will address health and quarantine requirements, with mediation from the General Administration of Customs of China.
  4. Emergency Humanitarian Aid from China
    The Cabinet approved the signing of a Certificate of Handover for emergency humanitarian aid provided by China. This aid, valued at 35.7 million Yuan, includes 75,000 fisheries nets, 500 pre-cast houses, and 1,630 tons of rice for small-scale fishermen in Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces. The Ministry of Fisheries is currently distributing the aid.
  5. MOUs with Chinese Institutions in Health and Mass Media
    The Cabinet also approved several MOUs between the Ministry of Health and Mass Media and various Chinese institutions, including:
  • National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA)
  • Xinhua News Agency
  • China Media Group
    These agreements aim to foster collaboration in media and health sectors between the two countries.
