Five individuals were arrested for engaging in violent behaviour during a protest held outside the Tissa Rajamaha Viharaya in Kankesanthurai, Jaffna.
The protest was organised by a group led by Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) MP S. Shritharan, demanding the release of lands belonging to the temple, which he claimed should be returned to civilians.
Police arrested five protesters after they attempted to forcibly enter the temple premises.
The Palali Police had obtained a court order in advance to prevent the protest, following concerns over public order and security.
