First Australian-made rocket crashes moments after lift-off

The first Australian-made and designed orbital rocket, developed by Gilmour Space Technologies, crashed just 14 seconds after lift-off during its inaugural test launch.

Footage from the Bowen Orbital Spaceport in North Queensland shows the Eris rocket successfully lifting off the ground before losing momentum and crashing back down, followed by plumes of white smoke rising from the site.

Despite the failure, Gilmour Space Technologies described the event as a “giant leap” for Australia’s space capabilities.

In an official statement, the company confirmed that no injuries were reported and announced plans for a second launch within six to eight months.
