Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, announced plans to place the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
He further stated that the division would continue to operate under a Senior DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department.
This restructuring aims to streamline and expedite investigations into financial crimes.
The FCID, which was established to address financial misconduct, has reportedly been inactive in recent days.
To address this and other issues, the minister revealed that a cabinet paper detailing structural changes within the police force will be submitted on the 20th of this month.
These measures are intended to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the police force.
