Three men have been arrested in Sri Lanka for allegedly kidnapping a Brazilian tourist after posing as Tourist Police officers.

Police say the suspects approached the visitor while pretending to be law enforcement officials.

They allegedly detained the tourist, stole personal belongings and demanded a ransom.

The suspects were arrested following a swift investigation by the Unawatuna Tourist Police.

Authorities have also seized the vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.

Police say investigations are continuing and have urged tourists to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer.
