Experts reveal 10% of Sri Lankans suffer from mental health disorders

The Ministry of Health reports that around 10% of Sri Lanka’s population suffers from various mental illnesses.

Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, stated that approximately 2% of the population is affected by severe mental health conditions.

Speaking at the national ceremony held yesterday to mark World Mental Health Day, Dr. Gunawardena further noted that mental health disorders have significantly contributed to the rising number of suicides in the country.
