Sri Lanka is facing a growing sleep-related problem that can lead to serious physical and mental health issues, according to the Health Promotion Bureau.
Senior Lecturer and Specialist Dr. Dilesha Wadasinghe warned that insufficient sleep increases the risk of vehicle accidents.
She emphasized that practicing good sleep hygiene can enhance memory growth, improve mental well-being, and support overall physical health.
Dr. Wadasinghe also highlighted that a lack of quality sleep can contribute to high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even tuberculosis. She stressed the importance of adequate sleep, recommending that children aged one year should sleep 12 to 16 hours a day, while adults should get at least 7 hours of sleep daily.
