Ex-Sri Lankan presidents’ foreign trip spending revealed

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya revealed the foreign trip expenses of former Sri Lankan presidents during a parliamentary session on 27th of February.

She disclosed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa spent Rs. 3,572 million on foreign trips between 2010 and 2014, with Rs. 1,144 million spent in 2013 alone.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena spent Rs. 384 million on foreign trips between 2015 and 2019, while Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who served as president from 2020 to 2022, spent Rs. 126 million.

Ranil Wickremesinghe, who served as president from 2023 to 2024, spent Rs. 533 million on his foreign trips. In contrast, current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has spent Rs. 1.8 million on foreign trips so far.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized that Mahinda Rajapaksa spent the highest amount on foreign trips during his presidency.
