Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has clarified that reports claiming a building near the Menik Ganga in Kataragama belongs to him are false.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Rajapaksa said certain media outlets have repeatedly misreported that a building constructed by another person in the area is his property.
He noted that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry had already been conducted into the ownership of the building, during which he had provided a statement.
According to Rajapaksa, his name was mentioned in connection with the property because an application for an electricity connection had been submitted under the name “G. Rajapaksa.” However, the application lacked a proper signature, containing only scribbles instead.
Reiterating his position, the former President stressed that the building near the Menik Ganga is not his property and stated that he has never had any reason or intention to construct or maintain any building in Kataragama.
