Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed a petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in relation to ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The petition was submitted through Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena and names Inspector General of Police (IGP), CID Director Shani Abeysekara, and Officer-in-Charge of the CID’s Special Investigation Unit, Madhava Gunawardena, as respondents.
According to court filings, Rajapaksa is requesting legal protection against any potential arrest while investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks continue.
The matter is expected to be considered by the Court of Appeal in due course.
