Ex- bank executive Christopher McCann dies amid underage sex charges

Former Commonwealth Bank executive Christopher James McCann, who was facing charges of attempting to procure underage girls for sex, has been found dead, police confirmed.

McCann had been charged with using the internet to procure a child under 16 for a sexual act and appeared in court earlier this week.

He was granted bail on Monday and was scheduled to reappear in court on 4th of August .

Queensland Police stated that McCann’s death, which occurred on Wednesday in Springbrook, is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Following his arrest, McCann was dismissed from his position at the bank and had his accounts frozen, the court heard during his bail hearing.

He had been arrested by NSW detectives at Sydney Airport and appeared in Brisbane Arrests Court seeking bail.

Magistrate Louise Shepherd acknowledged the seriousness of the charge, while McCann’s lawyer, David Jones KC, criticized police objections to bail as “unprofessional” and based on “fortune telling.”

McCann and his co-accused, 18-year-old Shauntelle Elizabeth Went, were released from Brisbane Watch House on Monday under strict bail conditions.

As he left court, McCann declined to speak to the media and entered a waiting car with his head bowed.
